Orland Park Dental Implant Dentist Walks You Through The Phases of the Dental Implant Treatment Process

If you have lost a tooth, it is time to restore your smile with a replacement tooth. The most state-of-the-art restorative treatment available is the dental implant. Dental implants are unique among restorative treatments, because they can stand alone, without relying on dental adhesive or adjacent teeth.

Want more information on how our dental team outfits patients with dental implants? Keep reading this short explanation from our Orland Park dental implant dentist:

Assessment

The process begins with our dental team analyzing your smile. We will determine how many, and what type of, dental implants are right for you. We will also check your jawbone density and gum tissue health, to ensure that your smile is ready for dental implants.

The dental root

Once it is clear that you are a strong dental implant candidate, our dental team will implant your restorative tooth’s root. The dental implant root is a small screw made of titanium; our dental team surgically inserts this root to replace the natural tooth root. Your gum and jaw tissue will need to heal completely before we can move on to the next phase of treatment.

Abutment and dental restoration

Once your implant root is firmly in place, we will cap it with an abutment (connector piece) and your dental restoration. The dental restoration looks just like a natural tooth, and allows you to eat, smile, and speak confidently. Once this portion of treatment is completed, you will be ready to jump back in to your regular routine—with a transformed smile!
