Additionally, both LUMINEERS and veneers are made of porcelain. However—getting into the differences between these treatments—the specific type of porcelain used is different for veneers and LUMINEERS. LUMINEERS are crafted from Cerinate porcelain, which is designed to be exceptionally strong.
This one difference—the exact type of porcelain used—impacts the patient experience in a number of ways. Because Cerinate porcelain is so strong:
· We are able to make LUMINEERS thinner than traditional veneers, without sacrificing durability
· Because LUMINEERS are thinner, our dental team does not need to shave away very much dental enamel in order to make the LUMINEERS “fit” naturally over the tooth. Veneers, because they are thicker than LUMINEERS, require more enamel destruction.
· This means that LUMINEERS are generally reversible, while veneers are not. In other words, you could conceivably have your LUMINEERS removed at some point, and you would still have health teeth underneath.
