Tinley Park Dentist Helps You Safeguard Your Smile From Damage

Our Tinley Park dentists are here to help all of our dental patients optimize their smiles. We provide the care, and the information, necessary to achieve, and then maintain, a healthy smile. In this article we will be sharing some tips with you—we’re going to learn more about simple things that you can do in order to safeguard your smile!

First of all, it’s important to remember that the number one thing that you can do for your smile is to follow all of your dentist’s recommendations, and to complete semi-annual dental cleanings.

Here are some additional things that you can do at home in order to boost your oral health:

1. Rinse your mouth with water after eating or drinking. When you vigorously swish water around your mouth you help to dislodge dental debris and harmful oral bacteria.

2. Try not to sip or snack on sugary things throughout the day. Avoiding sugary substances in general will help you smile. But when you do indulge, try to consume these things in a limited period of time. When you eat/drink over a long period of time you prolong the amount of time that oral bacteria are able to feed on sugars.

3. Seek treatment for bruxism. Bruxism is a condition characterized by chronic dental grinding and jaw clenching. This condition can adversely affect your smile over time, because it weakens, and causes micro-cracks, in your dental enamel.

4. Avoid chomping on hard substances like ice and card candies, as this action can also damage your dental enamel.
