Many dental patients want to achieve straight and seamless smiles, but they don’t want to have to wear metal braces for months or years. Unfortunately, this keeps too many people from pursuing dental treatment!
Our Tinley Park Invisalign dentists are here to tell you that there is a convenient and effective alternative to metal braces: Invisalign. Keep reading to get the answers to commonly asked questions about how Invisalign works!
Q: How often do I need to wear my Invisalign aligners?
A: In order to effectively move your teeth, it is critically important that you wear your aligners for as many hours of the day as possible. You will need to take out your aligners when you eat, drink something other than water, and clean your smile. In general, you should aim to wear your aligners for 23 hours a day—the more you wear them the better your treatment outcome!
Q: What does it feel like to wear Invisalign aligners?
A: During the course of Invisalign treatment, you will actually wear a series of aligners. Every two to three weeks you will get a new aligner, which moves your teeth a little more. Some people experience a feeling of tightness and dental sensitivity right after they start wearing a new aligner, but this feeling dissipates quickly. It may also take some time for you to get used to speaking and enunciating with your aligners in place. Otherwise, Invisalign aligners are quite comfortable and intuitive; because they are made of smooth plastic resin, they do not irritate the wearer’s oral tissues as metal brackets and wires do.
As always, our Orland Park Invisalign dentists are here to answer any additional questions that you may have, and to help you make the best decisions for the health and appearance of your smile.
