In order to effectively and conveniently meet our patients’ needs, our Tinley Park cosmetic dentists offer a wide range of aesthetic dentistry treatments. We know that no two smiles are exactly the same, so aesthetic treatments must likewise be customized.

With so many cosmetic treatments available, it can sometimes be difficult for people to figure out which options are right for them. We’re here to help! Keep reading to learn more about two specific treatments: Invisalign and porcelain veneers.

Uses

Invisalign is used primarily to correct dental misalignment, so the patient can achieve a straight and seamless smile. Invisalign is also used to improve the patient’s bite. Veneers can likewise address misalignment, though they are not generally suitable for severely misaligned smiles. Veneers are also used to cover dark or unsightly enamel, repair damaged teeth, and lengthen the appearance of short or poorly proportioned teeth.

Timeline

Invisalign treatment generally takes about a year to a year and half to complete. This is because the Invisalign aligners that you wear move your teeth incrementally—it takes time to achieve results. Veneers, on the other hand, are created and placed in just two or three dental appointments.

Post-Treatment Care

Once you are done with Invisalign you will need to wear maintenance retainers to prevent your teeth from moving again. You’ll wear these aligners at night while you are asleep, so they won’t interfere with your daily life. Veneers are very low-maintenance in that you’ll be able to care for your smile as you do normally, but brushing, flossing, and using mouth rinse. The porcelain used to create these restorations is naturally stain-resistant, so your veneers will continue to look fresh and bright for years to come.
